Young Copy was recently published as a featured customer at Beanstalk. Beanstalk provides hassle-free subversion hosting for designers, developers, and even professional writers to store source code, track changes, and collaborate with team members.

Before you read this blog post any further, head on over to Beanstalk and read the Customer Story: Young Copy blog post written by Chris Nagele, Principal of Wildbit, Beanstalk’s parent company.

Benefits of using Beanstalk

With big brand names using Beanstalk’s subversion hosting like Puma, New Relic, and Realmac Software, Young Copy set out to become a featured brand as well. Using Beanstalk has proven more than useful by providing Young Copy, our team of technical writers, and our clients with multiple benefits including:

Fast and easy setup / administration

Security

Reliability and speed

User-friendly

Affordable

In addition to the great usability aspects of Beanstalk, Young Copy is saving thousands of dollars annually by moving to a hosted subversion service. And we haven’t looked back since starting, which led us directly to becoming a featured customer on the Beanstalk blog.

Why we were featured on Beanstalk

Young Copy is an up and coming professional writing services company that has developed a brand for providing high quality writing services that generate results. For years, mostly developers and programmers have been using some type of version control. Since we cater to software and technology companies that use version control, using subversion hosting makes sense for our technical writing team.

Chris says, “Version control is no longer just for software developers. With Beanstalk’s ease of use, it can be applied across many industries including design, writing, and document management. Young Copy is a great example of this.”

Chris is right. And Young Copy has proven that point. Since using Beanstalk, we have improved the turnaround time for delivering software documentation and technical manuals to our clients while achieving higher quality in the work we complete. As a result, our technical writing services clients are happy, very happy.

After a busy year I finally had a chance to publish an article I wrote months ago, but had to file it away until I had a new site capable of updating website content quickly and I had enough time to sit down and start publishing again. If you have ever considered outsourcing your software documentation to a company that specializes in outsourced technical writing services, you should read my latest article in the Young Copy Resource Center 10 Reasons to Outsource Technical Writing Services.

The bottom line – you save money.

The article explains how you save money by outsourcing to a team that provides technical writing services. You may be thinking, “A team – that will cost a lot.” But in reality, a team of expert technical writing consultants will save you money. Consider the costs associated with hiring one in-house writer (insurance, benefits, paid leave, office space and supplies, hardware, software – the list goes on). When you outsource to a company that specializes in technical writing services, you pay for what you need, when you need it the most.

Young Copy has written thousands of pages of software technical documentation. We’ve written documentation for multiple software companies that are experts in their field. They prefer to rely on the expertise of a reliable outsourced technical writing services. Everybody wins. You can too. So take 60 seconds of your time and read the 10 Reasons to Outsource Technical Writing Services article. You’ll save money in more ways than one. And you’ll look good doing it.

After months of hard work and determination, Young Copy finally got a new face lift. Built on a new content management system, lathered in a fresh coat of paint, and branded to be the number one professional writing services firm in the world, Young Copy is moving forward and taking names. While the designer was busy ripping some new graphics and coding some serious CSS, I was working diligently on making sure the new site’s search engine optimization framework was in place. And I decided it was time for a new slogan, a slogan that would represent the Young Copy brand and emphasize what we do for our clients.

Before you read any further, go ahead and subscribe to my blog feed by clicking on the “Subscribe to RSS Feed” link to your right above the archives list. Although some blogs send you posts everyday, which may be good depending on the type of work you do, you’ll only receive one or two posts from me each week (unless you demand more, just ask). And that’s if I’m not too busy helping clients increase their revenue with fantastic promotional writing services or helping technology companies reduce support costs with easy-to-read (and use) manuals with our technical writing services.

Okay, so I inserted a shameless plug. Well, in my opinion, the plug isn’t shameless, but rather an attempt to help Young Copy continue to build its brand as the number one professional writing services company in the world. And we’re well on our way to achieving that goal. In 2008, Young Copy experienced tremendous growth, signing on big brand clients in the hosting, software, and technology industries. You will read about those clients in future case studies, a section I can now update quickly with our new content management system.

Even though I am the driving force behind Young Copy, I had to hire new talent to help me get projects completed on time. When I say new talent, I mean people who can research any topic and find valuable, solid sources I can use to backup my powerful copywriting. I mean people who can edit, checking for spelling and grammar, making sure our documents are polished and ready for the public. I mean people who can write instructions on how to use the most demanding software, who aren’t afraid to get down and dirty with technology. And they all have one thing in common – they meet my expectations, they exceed client expectations.

Now we can call ourselves a team, complete with a few top-notch researchers, editors, and some up-and-coming technical writers. We’ve got class. And in the coming year I am pulling all the stops. Young Copy will make every effort to market its services just like we do for our clients. Helping clients increase their sales and revenue on a daily basis (or saving on support costs) involves a lot of creativity backed by years of experience and professionalism.

To help support Young Copy’s ideology and enhance the brand further, I developed the “writing for revenue” slogan. Every company must earn revenue in order to stay in business. And every company wants to increase revenues. After all, if you’re the CEO of a company, or one of the top executives, your goal is to understand the big picture – more sales equals more revenue. And if you run your business like a pro, more revenue turns into more profit; something we all strive for in our business. Young Copy is no exception.

So how does Young Copy help businesses increase sales and revenue? We write. We write for revenue. Young Copy spends every day working on writing copy that motivates readers to take action, to download a product, to read a brochure, to purchase that new product or service. Young Copy spends every day working on creating some of the best user manuals, online documentation, and software guides to help companies build their self-help systems, thereby reducing support costs. Lower support costs means more money you can put back into your business. And the more you can put back into your business, the more revenue you can earn (assuming you’re running it like a pro).

So what do we do on a daily basis? We spend our time writing. What do we help our clients increase on a daily basis? We help our clients increase their revenue. Put it all together and you get “writing for revenue.” That’s what we do. And that’s what we’ll continue to do. Except we get better with each new project. Our clients experience significant success. As a result, we have bigger, more compelling, and more successful case studies to tell (show) the world. With the new Young Copy website, we’ll do just that.

One of the first phases of showing you the evidence of my (the Young Copy team’s) hard work is our new video testimonials coming in January 2009. I will personally be introducing five new video testimonials and a cool new case study video testimonial, each released over an eight week period. These videos are extremely nice. The sound is crisp and the production is high quality like all Young Copy projects. I’m sure once you see one testimonial, you’ll want to see the rest. To make it easy, I have created a new mailing list. I promise (I guarantee) not to spam you with anything other than a blurb and a link to new videos as they are released.

Subscribe to the Young Copy Video Testimonials mailing list.

What’s Xenu Link Sleuth you ask? Xenu is a link checker. It’s free, easy to use, and provides a nice report on broken links found on your website. As a contract technical writer, I use it every time I update content or technical documentation, be it on the Young Copy site or on a client’s site. Actually, all our technical writing services utilize Xenu Link Sleuth. So why should you check for broken links on your site?

1. It looks bad if you have broken links throughout your site. If your goal is to look unprofessional, go ahead, keep the broken links.

2. Search engine spiders (Google, MSN, Yahoo, and others) can’t search your site thoroughly if you have broken links.

3. Your visitors can’t find information they need if you have broken links.

You will be surprised at how many times Xenu finds a broken link even though you “thought” you covered them all. Take the extra 30 seconds to open Xenu, insert your site’s web address, and click the “go” button.

Visit the Xenu Link Sleuth free link checker website at http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html. Don’t let the alien creatures scare you off. They quickly become your friends. Who knew alien technology would benefit humankind?

Don’t forget to watch the video explaining how to use Xenu Link Sleuth in the download section. Xenu makes testing for broken links faster, more efficient, and fun. The link checker is an invaluable tool for professional technical writing consultants. Plus the aliens are cool.
