On Tuesday, October 26, 3008, I published a post on my interview with 1&1’s CEO, Oliver Mauss. Today’s post is on an article I wrote describing 1&1’s new data center in Lenexa, Kansas, featured exclusively on Gawkwire. If you read my previous post on 1&1, you already know that 1&1 is 7 million customers strong. That said, their new data center in Lenexa, Kansas, a tornado hotspot, is their first data center in the USA. Based in Germany, 1&1 is dominating new markets across the globe. As I was writing the article, I learned the company offers some new advanced technology in data center design. But the most interesting aspect is how they turned a warehouse into a tornado proof state-of-the-art data center facility that holds 40,000 servers.

The 1&1’s Lenexa, Kansas Data Center Grand Opening article showcases 1&1’s entry into the US market with their new data center. The Ping! Zine team was there in person to tour the facility and learn about all the latest in data center technology. Oliver Mauss was on site as well along with the facility’s development director, Thorsten Ziegler. The new 1&1 data center, like many other data centers across the country, is green. They teamed up with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (www.b-e-f.org) to offset CO2 emissions for an environment friendly facility.

Back in July at HostingCon 2008 in Chicago, I interviewed 1&1’s new CEO, Oliver Mauss. When I returned from the convention, I took all my notes and wrote up a nice two page article outlining everything Mauss and I discussed during the interview. For those of you who are not familiar with 1&1 Internet Inc, they are one of the largest, if not the largest, web hosting services and domain name registration companies in the world. Now providing services to more than 7 million people across the globe, Mauss gave me some insight on how they do it and where they plan on launching their services next.

To view the article, download the PDF version of Ping! Zine’s magazine from the Ping! Zine’s web hosting magazine site. Then flip to page 12 and read “Interview with Oliver Mauss, CEO of 1&1.”

Mauss discussed the success of 1&1’s entry into the US market and described the business model they use to reach new markets. The interview does not cover every aspect of 1&1, but will give you some insight as to how large the web hosting services company is and how they plan on surpassing their current 7 million customer mark.

More interviews are on the way including Cloudmark, MediaTemple, Tucows/OpenSRS, Microsoft, and groupSPARk. Not all interviews will be published in Ping! Zine magazine – some will be posted in Ping! Zine’s sister site, Gawkwire, a site dedicated to the latest news, interviews, reviews, and media for the technology, software, and hosting industries.

Want to be featured in Ping! Zine web hosting magazine or on Gawkwire?

Contact Dave Young today to schedule an interview with a subject matter expert at your company. Or if you have news related information and want a product review, service review, announcement, or anything, contact Dave today. It doesn’t cost you anything. In fact, the more information you provide, the more exposure your company will get in the media. And the more attention your company receives from the media, the more your revenues increase. Plus you’ll be doing me a favor by giving me fresh content I can write about for the hosting, software, technology, and ecommerce industries.
