Article Published on 1&1’s New Data Center in Lenexa, Kansas
On Tuesday, October 26, 3008, I published a post on my interview with 1&1’s CEO, Oliver Mauss. Today’s post is on an article I wrote describing 1&1’s new data center in Lenexa, Kansas, featured exclusively on Gawkwire. If you read my previous post on 1&1, you already know that 1&1 is 7 million customers strong. That said, their new data center in Lenexa, Kansas, a tornado hotspot, is their first data center in the USA. Based in Germany, 1&1 is dominating new markets across the globe. As I was writing the article, I learned the company offers some new advanced technology in data center design. But the most interesting aspect is how they turned a warehouse into a tornado proof state-of-the-art data center facility that holds 40,000 servers.

The 1&1’s Lenexa, Kansas Data Center Grand Opening article showcases 1&1’s entry into the US market with their new data center. The Ping! Zine team was there in person to tour the facility and learn about all the latest in data center technology. Oliver Mauss was on site as well along with the facility’s development director, Thorsten Ziegler. The new 1&1 data center, like many other data centers across the country, is green. They teamed up with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (www.b-e-f.org) to offset CO2 emissions for an environment friendly facility.
