A new blog - why now?

Blogs have been on the Internet scene for several years now. I have always felt compelled to implement a blog, but never had the time or at least thought it was the right time to implement one. If you have been reading the Young Copy website, you know that I am a professional writer and help clients with all their promotional writing and technical writing projects. But there is more to it than just being able to write great copy or technical documents. Everything I do as a writer helps educate customers and prospects, generate leads, and ultimately increase value and revenue for my clients. So a new blog - why now?

Blog Marketing

Anyway, to answer the title's question, "A new blog - why now?," all of my clients are extremely successful. Some have blogs, and some do not. Regardless, they are all successful. The ones that do have blogs experience something phenomenal - a serious increase in targeted traffic from major search engines including Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Some clients in particular see thousands of targeted visitors monthly - all finding my clients' sites by initially landing on one of their well written blog pages. After seeing the success of one of my clients, and others, I decided to study what makes their blogs so successful. Below is a list of a few things to note before I continue:

  • Blogs can be a powerful method to rank higher in search engines.
  • Blogs are a great way to educate customers on all aspects of your products and services.
  • Blogs can create guerrilla marketing buzz where other bloggers link to your blog or website.
  • Blogs can be used as a news section for your site, but in real-time as things happen with your organization.
  • Blogs can generate more targeted traffic.

The bottom line - blogs can be a powerful marketing tool. Although my new blog "Tidbits from professional writer, Dave Young" only has a couple of posts, my goal in the coming weeks or months is to see what it takes to develop a successful blog that does everything I listed in the bullet points above. I can already say that just getting a blog started requires planning, time, and a bit of effort. However, my blog will be a great way to see if I can attract the right audience and develop business relationships that extend beyond a site that was previously blog-less.
